Ed Speleers is to star in Season 3 of mini-series DOWNTON ABBEY.

The acclaimed Golden Globe, Emmy and BAFTA award winning mini-series started filming Season 3 recently.

Speleers boarding Downton comes hot on the heels of him shooting the lead role in BAFTA award winning director Andy De Emmony’s forthcoming feature LOVE BITE, which is due to be released in 2012 via distributors Entertainment (HUGO, THE INBETWEENERS MOVIE – Europe’s top grossing movie in 2011).

Speleers is best known for playing the title role in 20th Century Fox’s ERAGON, and his recent projects include BAFTA nominated director Julian Gilbey’s feature A LONELY PLACE TO DIE, and THE RIDE with Anthony LaPaglia which was selected for Tribeca’s 2011 Film Festival.

LONDON – British director Julian Gilbey is in line to direct Offworld, a sci-fi safari movie set on an alien planet.

Levin is hiring Gilbey as the Brit director’s thriller A Lonely Place To Die, starring Melissa George and Ed Speleers hit U.K. movie theaters last week.

Levin’s resume boasts WatchmenBoogie Nights and United 93Offworld has been penned by David Leslie Johnson (Clash of the Titans 2).

Teaming with Levin and Johnson is a breakaway of sorts for Gilbey who coralled his brother Will Gilbey to script his previous directorial outings, Rise of the Footsoldier and Rollin’ With The Nines as well as A Lonely Place To Die.

Gilbey is repped by Matthew Hobbs at film production and talent management company Firefly.

Firefly is headed by Hobbs and Speleers.

Ed Speleers is set to star in Ecosse Films’ LOVE BITE with Timothy Spall, Kierston Wareing, Jessica Szohr, and Luke Pasqualino.

Directed by Andy De Emmony and produced by Ecosse Films (WUTHERING HEIGHTS, NOWHERE BOY, BRIDESHEAD REVISITED) and WestEnd Films (TAMARA DREWE), the film is set to shoot in Autumn 2011.

Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae of Ecosse Films (The Water Horse, Becoming Jane, Wuthering Heights) and Paul Ritchie (co-producer, Slumdog Millionaire) are producing in association with Notting Hill Films.

Ed is repped by Sally Long-Innes at Independent Talent, Jennifer Rawlings at WME, and Matthew Hobbs at Firefly.

Julian Gilbey‘s A LONELY PLACE TO DIE starring Ed Speleers, Melissa George, Sean Harris, and Eamonn Walker plays to a packed Screen 1 audience at Empire Cinema, Leicester Square London – as Film4′s FrightFest’s closing night film.

“A group of five mountaineers are hiking and climbing in the Scottish Highlands when they discover a young Serbian girl buried in a small chamber in the wilderness. They become caught up in a terrifying game of cat and mouse with the kidnappers as they try to get the girl to safety.”

The film is set for release in the UK on September 7; and in the US in November 2011.

Both Julian and Ed are repped by Matthew Hobbs @ Firefly.
